Field Visit for Geography and GIS Students as Part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week Activities

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhem Al-Asadi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majid Abdul-Hameed Al-Kaabi, and the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haidar Abdul-Ridha Al-Tamimi, the Technology Incubator Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems, organized a field visit for fourth-year students to the Fossil Exhibition on Sunday, December 1, 2024, as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week activities.

The visit aimed to enhance students’ practical and scientific knowledge by linking geographical and GIS concepts with real-world environmental applications, allowing them to explore fossil samples and understand their documentation and geological significance.

During the visit, exhibition specialists provided detailed explanations about different types of fossils, methods of discovery, and their geological importance. Students also engaged in discussions on how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be applied in studying ancient environments and fossil distribution.

This activity reflects the College of Arts’ commitment to promoting applied learning and academic entrepreneurship, preparing graduates equipped with advanced scientific and technical skills to contribute to research and community development.
