University of Basrah – College of Agriculture Holds a Scientific Seminar on Desertification and Its Impact on Sustainable Development

 

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem Al-Asadi, President of the University of Basrah,
and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed, Dean of the College of Agriculture,
The Technology Incubator Unit at the College of Agriculture organized a scientific seminar entitled “Desertification and Its Impact on the Environment and Sustainable Development.”

The seminar aimed to shed light on the growing problem of desertification in Iraq and the Arab region, exploring its environmental and economic consequences and discussing scientific approaches to mitigate its effects through sustainable agricultural practices and innovative resource management.

Presentations covered multiple topics, including the causes and drivers of desertification, the human role in intensifying the issue, and proposed solutions such as entrepreneurial agricultural initiatives and innovative reclamation techniques supported by the Technology Incubator Unit.

Speakers emphasized the importance of integrating scientific research with governmental and societal efforts to combat desertification, noting that the University of Basrah continues to play a leading role in supporting environmental sustainability and food security in Iraq.
