University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on “Public Health and Food Safety”

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Muhanad Jawad Al-Asadi, President of the University of Basrah, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Haider Khazral Mahbis, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, the Health and Restaurants Monitoring Unit at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education and the Technology Incubator Unit at the College of Engineering, organized a workshop entitled “Public Health and Food Safety” on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the College of Engineering.

The workshop aimed to raise health awareness among university staff and students regarding the principles of public health and methods of preventing food contamination, as well as to highlight food safety procedures within educational institutions.

The event featured scientific lectures delivered by a group of professors and specialists, including:

  • Prof. Dr. Nofal Abdulameer Hussein, College of Agriculture – Department of Food Science.

  • Lect. Dr. Afaq Mahdi Jabr, College of Science – Department of Life Sciences.

  • Dr. Ahmed Kareem Ghari, Basrah Health Directorate / Health Control Division.

  • Senior Supervisor Salim Bahir Muhibis, Basrah Health Directorate / Health Control Division.

  • Statistics Assistant Ahmed Asaad Muften, Basrah Health Directorate / Health Control Division.

The workshop concluded with a discussion session focused on enhancing cooperation between the university and health institutions to ensure food safety and improve the university’s work environment.
