Field Visit by the Scientific Team of the Marine Science Center to the General Company for Ports of Iraq – Marine Pollution Division

As part of the activities organized by the Technology Incubator Unit at the Marine Science Center, University of Basrah, a scientific team headed by Prof. Dr. Hind Mahdi Jarallah, and including Dr. Sattar Aziz Ghamis, Dr. Wissal Awda Hassan, Asst. Lecturer Faez Younis Khalil, and Asst. Lecturer Mazin Abdulhussein, conducted a field visit to the Marine Pollution Division at the General Company for Ports of Iraq.

The team met with Mr. Jaafar Sadiq, Head of the Marine Pollution Division, to discuss scientific collaboration opportunities in the field of marine pollution monitoring and oil spill treatment, emphasizing the importance of joint applied research.

During the visit, the team toured the exhibition area displaying miniature models of specialized marine vessels used in pollution response, as well as the storage facilities containing tools and materials utilized in oil pollution treatment, which rely on mechanical (physical) and chemical methods.

This visit reflects the University of Basrah’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with national institutions and supporting applied environmental research to promote marine sustainability and pollution control efforts in Iraq.
